TWO MoMA COLLECTION EXHBITIONS OPEN ON MARCH 26 Book/Shelf and Glossolalia: Languages of Drawing
ARTISTS’ WIDE-RANGING APPROACHES TO THE ILLUSTRATED BOOK EXPLORED IN BOOK/SHELF Book/Shelf Press Viewing Hour: Wednesday, March 26, 2008, 9:30–10:30 a.m. Book/Shelf, an exhibition that explores an expanded notion of the illustrated book, features approximately 70 works from the Museum’s collection that use a variety of techniquesincluding photography, film, printmaking, installation, drawing, and sound recordingreflecting artists’ wide range of approaches to the topic. EXHIBITION OF DRAWINGS FROM MoMA’S COLLECTION EXPLORES UNIQUE VISUAL LANGUAGES Glossolalia: Languages of
Drawing Press Viewing Hour: Wednesday, March 26, 2008, 9:30–10:30 a.m. Glossolalia: Languages of Drawing features some 100 works from the collection, many on view for the first time at the Museum. The exhibition includes the work of outsider and self-taught artists as well as that of contemporary artists who share an idiosyncratic visual vocabulary or a unique approach to their medium. The term “glossolalia” refers to the phenomenon of speaking a language that is undecipherable to all but the speaker. The exhibition is organized by Connie Butler, The Robert Lehman Foundation Chief Curator of Drawings, and Esther Adler, Curatorial Assistant, Department of Drawings, The Museum of Modern Art.
