za mimořádný přínos v oblasti grafické tvorby.
Grafická tvorba je svébytnou a podstatnou součástí díla Martina Velíška. Lze snad říci, že zatímco kresba je mu způsobem myšlení a malba nosným médiem, ke grafice se utíká kvůli řádu, technologii a konstrukci. Velíšek však není autorem chladné kázně. Jeho práce je typická zvláštním druhem inteligentní hravosti – je nadána jemnou ironií, smyslem pro paradox a schopností uvést běžnou věc do nečekaných souvislostí, například přísnou doslovností. Právě tato „morgensternovská“ lehkost, v níž se logika potkává s nadsázkou, patří k leitmotivům jeho tvůrčího uvažování, svébytného myšlení obrazem. Tisk v něm není vedlejším produktem nebo béčkovou disciplínou, je místem, kde se přesnost, imaginace i osobitý vtip koncentrují v nejčistší podobě – ve dvou a půl kilech dobře zralého sýra.

Graphic art is a distinctive and essential part of Martin Velíšek’s body of work. One might say that while drawing is his way of thinking and painting his primary medium, he turns to graphic art for its order, technique, and composition. Velíšek, however, is not an artist of cold discipline. His work is characterized by a unique kind of intelligent playfulness—it is imbued with subtle irony, a sense of paradox, and the ability to place ordinary things in unexpected contexts, such as strict literalism. It is precisely this “Morgensternian” lightness, in which logic meets exaggeration, that belongs to the leitmotifs of his creative thinking, his distinctive visual thinking. For him, print is not a byproduct or a second-rate discipline; it is a place where precision, imagination, and distinctive wit converge in their purest form—in two and a half kilos of well-aged cheese.

Martin Velíšek (*6. listopadu 1968, Athény) je český malíř, kreslíř, grafik, autor prostorových instalací a pedagog, působí jako profesor na Univerzitě Jana Evangelisty Purkyně v Ústí nad Labem. Ve své tvorbě se dlouhodobě zaměřuje na zkoumání vztahu mezi objektem a malbou, skutečností a iluzí, na vztah sémantické a vizuální vrstvy obrazu. Velíšek patří k výrazným osobnostem českého výtvarného umění, které se prosadily na přelomu 20. a 21. století. Jeho přístup k obrazu charakterizuje citlivá práce s iluzí, výrazová hravost a schopnost variovat klasická témata, jakými jsou zátiší, portrét či figurální motiv, v nových souvislostech a mezioborových rámcích. Studoval na Akademii výtvarných umění v Praze v letech 1989–2003, kde prošel několika ateliéry – tím Zdeňka Berana (1990–1991), Bedřicha Dlouhého (1991–1995) a Miloše Šejna (1994–1996). Od poloviny devadesátých let pravidelně vystavuje doma i v zahraničí. V posledních letech připravil výstavy Möbel (GASK, 2019), Portréty (Galerie Mariánská, 2019) a Improvizace na dané téma (Galerie Caesar, 2021). V roce 2025 se jeho dosavadní práce představila v Alšově jihočeské galerii pod názvem Apropriace, ve Špálově galerii a v v Sophistica Gallery v Praze. Posledně jmenovaná ve stejném roce připravila autorovu monografii.

Martin Velíšek (born November 6, 1968, Athens) is a Czech painter, draftsman, graphic artist, creator of space installations, and educator; he serves as a professor at Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem. In his work, he has long focused on exploring the relationship between object and painting, reality and illusion, and the relationship between the semantic and visual layers of an image. Velíšek is one of the prominent figures in Czech visual art who established themselves at the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries. His approach to the image is characterized by a sensitive handling of illusion, expressive playfulness, and the ability to reinterpret classical themes—such as still lifes, portraits, or figurative motifs—within new contexts and interdisciplinary frameworks. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague from 1989 to 2003, where he worked in several studios—those of Zdeněk Beran (1990–1991), Bedřich Dlouhý (1991–1995), and Miloš Šejn (1994–1996). Since the mid-1990s, he has exhibited regularly both domestically and abroad. In recent years, he has organized the exhibitions Möbel (GASK, 2019), Portraits (Mariánská Gallery, 2019), and Improvisations on a Given Theme (Caesar Gallery, 2021). In 2025, his work to date was presented at the Alšova South Bohemian Gallery under the title Apropriace, at the Špála Gallery, and at the Sophistica Gallery in Prague.
